Resize in centimetres, millimetres or inches

Choose a printed size in millimetres, centimetres or inches. Use Resize in centimetres, millimetres or inches locally with practical instructions, output settings and format.

A practical guide

Resize in centimetres, millimetres or inches

Prepare an image for a measured print area by entering millimetres, centimetres or inches and a DPI value. The tool converts those physical measurements into whole-pixel dimensions, then crops, pads or stretches the source as selected. Save a JPG or PNG with the chosen print resolution metadata.

  • Prepare a 10 by 15 cm photograph
  • Fit artwork to a measured label
  • Create an image at a specified print DPI

How to use Resize in centimetres, millimetres or inches

  1. Choose the print image

Add a supported still raster image. Check that its resolution is suitable for the intended physical size, since increasing pixels cannot restore missing source detail.

  2. Enter measured dimensions

Set width, height, units and print DPI. These values determine the output pixel dimensions, rounded to whole pixels within the forty-million-pixel output bound.

  3. Choose the fitting method

Select centre crop, pad to fit or stretch, and choose the padding colour when relevant. Export PNG or JPG according to your print workflow.

  4. Create and check the file

Run Create output and inspect the downloaded image. Check its framing and print-size settings in the application that will place it on paper.

Understand the settings

Print width
Print width accepts values from 0.1 to 10000, in increments of 0.1. The initial value is 25.4. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
Print height
Print height accepts values from 0.1 to 10000, in increments of 0.1. The initial value is 25.4. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
Dimensions unit
Choose dimensions unit according to the result you need. Available choices: Millimetres; Centimetres; Inches. The initial selection is Millimetres.
Print DPI
Print DPI accepts values from 1 to 2400, using whole numbers. The initial value is 300. Change it for a specific output requirement, then check the result before processing more files.
Image fit
Choose image fit according to the result you need. Available choices: Centre crop; Pad to fit; Stretch. The initial selection is Pad to fit.
Padding colour
Choose the padding colour used by the operation. The initial colour is #ffffff. Check the output against its intended background, particularly when transparent areas, fine edges or text contrast matter.
Output format
Choose output format according to the result you need. Available choices: PNG; JPG. The initial selection is PNG.

A photograph for a measured frame

A photo must fill a 10 by 15 cm frame at 300 DPI. Enter those measurements, choose centre crop and JPG, then create the output. Review the crop carefully so the frame does not cut off a face or an important edge.

Check your result

Upload a supported file, adjust the settings and create the output. Physical dimensions are converted to pixels at the selected DPI, rounded to whole pixels. Maximum 40 million output pixels. Open the saved output in the app or workflow where you plan to use it. Check one representative result before repeating the same settings with more files. The original files stay unchanged.

What to know before you start

  • Files are processed on this device. Browser memory and engine-specific limits apply. Save results before reloading.
  • Physical dimensions are converted to pixels at the selected DPI, rounded to whole pixels. Maximum 40 million output pixels.
  • Upload one file with a combined size of at most 100 MB. The completed output must fit within 200 MB.
  • Files are checked by the local engine; a matching filename alone is not proof of valid contents.
  • Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.

Resize in centimetres, millimetres or inches: common questions

How are physical sizes converted to pixels?

The tool converts the chosen unit to inches, multiplies by DPI and rounds each side to a whole pixel. Small rounding differences are expected because raster images cannot store fractional pixel widths or heights.

Does 300 DPI guarantee a sharp print?

No. DPI describes the relationship between pixels and printed size. A source with too little detail can still look soft after resizing, so inspect the image and choose a physical size appropriate to the source quality.

Which fit avoids trimming artwork?

Pad to fit keeps the whole image within the measured rectangle and fills remaining space with the selected padding colour. Centre crop fills the rectangle by trimming excess edges; stretch changes proportions to match both dimensions.

Can I request any physical dimensions?

The controls permit a range of physical dimensions and DPI values, but the computed output must remain within forty million pixels. Very large measurements at high DPI may exceed that bound even when each field accepts its value.

Does Resize in centimetres, millimetres or inches upload files to another service?

Processing runs in this browser, on your device. Files and pasted input are not uploaded to a conversion server. The website and required engine assets must load first; large operations depend on available device memory.

Can I continue after changing pages?
