SVG ↔ SVGZ
Compress a self-contained SVG or restore a compressed SVGZ. Use SVG ↔ SVGZ locally with practical instructions, output settings and format limits.
SVG ↔ SVGZ
Compress a self-contained SVG into SVGZ or restore an SVGZ into ordinary SVG markup. Direction follows the input format, so no separate mode selection is needed. Use it when a workflow explicitly expects gzip-compressed SVG, while checking destination support and keeping expanded content within the bounded decompression limit.
- Create an SVGZ from self-contained artwork
- Restore compressed SVG markup for editing
- Prepare an SVG file from an SVGZ asset
How to use SVG ↔ SVGZ
Choose SVG or SVGZ
Upload one self-contained SVG to compress or one SVGZ to expand. The filename format determines the operation, and the actual SVG content is checked.
Check resource dependencies
Make sure the drawing does not depend on unsupported external or active resources. This workflow changes gzip packaging rather than resolving linked fonts, images or scripts.
Create the compressed or expanded file
Run Create result to gzip the SVG or safely decompress the SVGZ. Expansion is bounded to one hundred megabytes and invalid compressed data is rejected.
Test the destination support
Download the resulting SVGZ or SVG and open it in the intended workflow. Keep a plain SVG copy when the receiving application cannot interpret gzip-compressed SVG assets.
Understand the settings
This operation uses fixed output settings. Choose and order the supported files as described above, then review the output notes.
An SVGZ supplied for editing
A design asset arrives as SVGZ while an editor expects plain SVG. Add the SVGZ and create the result. Open the expanded SVG in the editor and inspect its geometry and definitions before making edits or choosing a different output packaging.
Check your result
Choose a file or enter text where available. Review the settings, create your result and download the new copy. Processing stays on this computer. Input and expansion limits apply; originals are never overwritten. Open the saved output in the app or workflow where you plan to use it. Check one representative result before repeating the same settings with more files. The original files stay unchanged.
What to know before you start
- Files are processed on this device. Browser memory and engine-specific limits apply. Save results before reloading.
- Processing stays on this computer. Input and expansion limits apply; originals are never overwritten.
- Upload one file with a combined size of at most 100 MB. The completed output must fit within 200 MB.
- Files are checked by the local engine; a matching filename alone is not proof of valid contents.
- Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
SVG ↔ SVGZ: common questions
How is the conversion direction chosen?
An SVG input is gzip-compressed into SVGZ, while an SVGZ input is decompressed and checked as SVG. There is no separate format menu because the supported counterpart is determined directly from the uploaded input type.
Does SVGZ optimization change the drawing paths?
This tool changes gzip packaging rather than intentionally simplifying SVG geometry or precision. Use SVG optimizer if you want markup optimization, and compare the drawing visually after any separate operation that modifies its source structure.
Can I expand an arbitrarily large SVGZ?
No. Gzip expansion is bounded to one hundred megabytes, and the restored content must pass the supported SVG checks. Highly compressed inputs are not allowed to expand without a limit merely because their uploaded size is small.
Will every browser or editor open SVGZ?
Support depends on the receiving application and, for web delivery, its handling of compressed content. Test the actual destination and use ordinary SVG when it expects plain markup rather than assuming a new extension is universally interchangeable.
Does SVG ↔ SVGZ upload files to another service?
Processing runs in this browser, on your device. Files and pasted input are not uploaded to a conversion server. The website and required engine assets must load first; large operations depend on available device memory.
Can I continue after changing pages?
Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
